Healthy, Fall Lentil Soup

Taken on a Canon EOS 600d (Excuse the rather annoying wire thingy. It was an electric rod they used for buildings)

So like everybody else in the northern hemisphere, Russia has followed suit into the Fall weather. Except in Russia, Fall here is like Winter in New York City. And winter is like the Arctic (I kid you not) It is now about 1℃. Out of all my years on earth, I had never experienced winter or fall because I live in a tropical country, where it is a nice, warm sometimes even a hot 33℃-38℃ all year round. Now, that's a holiday.

But, since I've been living in the cold weather and surviving against Russia's harsh winters. So today, I have a warm and filling soup recipe for you guys. A soup on a chilly afternoon, the best relaxation you can think of. It is so easy to make, just throw in all the ingredients and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes and there you have it! This particular recipe is healthy for you, even. So, go ahead, help yourselves to several helpings. Oh, and did I mention it tastes soo good?

Warm and Healthy Fall Lentil Soup ♡

Here are the ingredients I used: (I had pre-cut the vegetables the night before)

First you need: Sliced Carrots (loads of them)

Sliced Onions (I had in about 2 whole onions.)

And of course, if you want to make lentil soup, you've got to have Lentils.

Lentils are called Chechevitsa in Russian

Next, seasoning: I had salt, black pepper, and some coarse chilli. I recommend substituting salt with cumin (which gives the warm, hearty flavour) but I don't have that at the moment. Hence, salt works fine.

Tbh, any other spices you have on hand that you think works great in soups will be just perfect. Try experimenting on your own! ☺

I also added a little amount of ginger, but that was optional!

The Steps

Bring a large pot of water to boil.

Next, in goes the sliced carrots

The sliced onions and lentils goes next:

Here comes the seasonings, the pepper:

Chilli

And Salt:

And thats it! Let it simmer for about 15-20 mins on medium heat. Check back to see if the carrots and lentils are soft enough to cut through with a spoon or a soup ladle.

Healthy Fall Lentil Soup

You have your healthy, seasonal lentil soup that's good for you and so flavoursome! This recipe obviously does not include meat of any sort, because the lentils are such a good source of protein. This recipe is also very diverse, you can include any vegetables you have on hand. Just add on couple handfuls of lentils and start boiling! Plus, if you made too much: the leftovers freezes beautifully and this can last me for days!

Try it! And tweet me a picture: @janiceeec

Let me know in the comments below what you think of this homemade autumn soup recipe, full of deliciousness!

Review: Face Masks For The Clear Skin

Today is one of those days where I blog about boring stuffs like fashion and beauty. People who read my blog who don't care about fashion or beauty, then this post is not for you. But! For those who also enjoy the odd piece of beauty things, as we girls do. Here you go!

I haven't done this kind of blog post in awhile, so I took it easy this time round. Also, I thought I might do this sort of Review posts a little bit more often. Let me know in the comments section below what you think. Enjoy!

THE FACE MASK

Fresh Fruit Acerola Mask Sheet by The Face Shop

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago in one of the branches of The Face Shop while I was on holiday in Penang Island. I think it was the Gurney Plaza branch.

Anyhoo, the staff in there was amazing. I had been looking around for some skin care products since I've been back as I don't currently own any. As my skin adjusts to the warm, tropical weather here in Malaysia rather than the cold crisp air of Moscow, I had to look for some new skin care or my skin was going to go robust! I had been quite a fan of their products but I had never really tried them out.

So in I walked with my mother plus sister, just randomly into the store, nicely seated in a corner of the high rise Gurney Plaza. I was immediately greeted by the staff, lovely girls they are. (But sometimes I think they wear quite a heavy bit of make up just for days at work, even at a beauty store.)

In the end, I picked up a whole bunch of skin care: amidst them was some night time moisturizer, a day time one, and a toner. Which I absolutely adore. I shall have to do a review on that soon!

Continuing my rambles on my visit in that fantastic store, I tried this mask when I was back in KL. I had washed my face, applied some toner (the very one I bought there) and then slapped the entire mask sheet on. It brought instant relief. Wow. I was amazed. It felt practically like relaxation.

Left it on there for about a whole 15 minutes or so. I typically like to keep my face masks on a bit longer than it usually states to, just because I want to get all the goodness out of that sheet!

So in the after peeling off process, I patted my now sticky face with my fingers, trying abruptly to let more of the amazing serum sink in to my skin.
I really quite enjoyed that face mask. I hadn't found a good face mask in a while.

So, in no surprise, when you like something, you tend to go into the store again to get more. Am I right or wrong here?

Hence I went in to The Face Shop at a local KL branch. The one at the KL Festival City. And I was bummed to hear that they had discontinued this range of face masks. Instead, they came out with a new range of masks. I have yet to try them new ones, but I wish they had kept these old ones. Because I found out the day after that a lot of old hyper pigmentation scars on my face had gone. Vanished. Poof!  Was it because of this very mask? I don't know, but I couldn't tell you anymore. As they are no longer producing it. But! No need to fret, I have picked up a couple more of the newer range of face masks, which I'm very keen to try. And the lady at the local store said the newer ones are a renewed version of the older one that I had loved. Alright then, we will see how I like the new kid in town.

So this is it for my review today. I hope you enjoyed the odd piece of beauty things here sometime. After all, my life is very boring to constantly update the world about. Beauty brings out the passion in me. I have very odd sense of passions. I shall try to write more reviews on the products I try. Maybe I shall even include make up product reviews?!

Do let me know in the comment below what you think of posts like this. In the case that you are not interested in these, do let me know as well. I really hope to do more these sort of things as well, as blogging takes my mind off things and it keeps me very much at bay. And I enjoy it very much.

Lots of love,
Janice

Life moments + Hunt for MTV World Stage Insider

Hey guys!

Today I visited my long time nanny for when I was a wee child. My precious nanny and her husband whom I call 'uncle' has been a life saver for both my parents in terms of young childcare. Probably about 19 years ago times are hard, there is never enough time for my hardworking parents to work and care for me at the same time. I was also their first child. So, needless to say: I was sent to a nanny to be taken care of while my parents worked.

I was told stories of how rebellious I was and how I completely refused to be sent to my day care house in the morning. I would cry myself dry at the sight of my parents leaving me, or so I'm told. I do not have the capability of memory to #throwback till my youngest days.

The days got better, I soon became used to being in my 'day home', waiting for my parents to come pick me up in the evening. After years of day caring, I was finally old enough to stay home. I think I was 5 then. Even though I was no longer taken care of by my nanny, my family constantly went back to visit my nanny and her family. They have become apart of my life and I consider them my family.

Today I am most certainly no longer in need of a nanny, but I still go back to visit. So I picked today to visit my nanny and her family at their home after a year of being abroad. I was shell-shocked at the news I received. My 'uncle' has gotten a stroke a couple weeks before, and has been in the hospital ever since. At the sight of a once strong and agile man, now becoming a frail and sick person left me contemplating about life's very existence and its main purposes. Whenever a person's life flashes by your eyes, whether or not the person is a close friend or family, or just a stranger - you get that deep in the gut feeling of how valued and lucky you are, for being alive.

It makes me feel as though I'm wasting precious time, we have never thought to make use of the time we have here in this world, to do something: Anything, at all that would make it all worth it in the end. Certainly, you would agree with me that we are given lives for a purpose. Although I understand that different people has their own mindset and their own thinking about living as a whole.

I hope everyone reading this post would go out, and do something valuable. Please do not waste all the time you are given, in a blink of an eye it could be all gone. Even if you're just sitting here, get up: do something productive. Or simply do something that would make you happy. There is no point in not doing something you don't enjoy, or love. Live life to the fullest, as they always say eh?

On a lighter note, I have been spending almost an entire week planning and filming my newest video! And it is: Hunt for MTV World Stage Insider by MTV Asia.

They are searching for someone who is capable of handling their social media while the event proceeds. And I'm hoping I would be chosen as I fit all the criteria required! Never have I been so excited about meeting all the requirements.

I just want to put it out there that, that they should pick me also because: *winks* (MTV follows me)

Summer Breeze

Hey Everyone!

I have been back in Malaysia for 2 weeks now. Today exactly. :)
And my time here has been nothing but f. a. b. u. l. o. u. s.
But you know, as they all say: when there is something that goes up, it must come down.

In the past week, the world lost a beautiful angel:
or better known online as TaliaJoy18.  She was diagnosed with different types of cancer as a mere child and has fought with them for 6 years. I found her on Youtube when one of her video went viral and everybody looked into her case and saw that she had such a bubbly spirit even living with cancer. She gave people with the disease everywhere joy, and hope. She touched everyone's hearts and I know she definitely touched mine. She was only 13 when she passed on July 16th, 11:22am. Talia was an aspiring makeup artist and she had such big dreams. To have her own makeup line, and loves fashion. It saddens me that such talent would go to waste. Sometimes, you've got to ask yourself. Why? Fly high and soar. Rest In Peace, sweet angel.

Oh wait, I'm not done.

Cory Monteith
 (May 11, 1982 – July 13, 2013)
Died of mixed drug toxicity

I have to be honest, I don't actually watch Glee. I'm not a big fan. But I have, on some occasions watch a few episodes here and there. And out of that I have watched, I seem to only remember seeing Jane Lynch, Cory Monteith and Lea Michele in the show. (weird much?)
Again, another huge talent going to waste. So please guys, don't do drugs. Value life. Never do drugs. I honestly cannot see the point in doing drugs. You know you're probably gonna end up worst than how you started. Don't do them in the first place. Think of your loved ones, think of your family, think of everyone who cares about you. What will happen to them if you're being so selfish to yourself?
#RIPCoryMonteith
#PrayForLea

OK,
Enough of the fuzzy stuffs. I need to wipe my tears!
Now let's do some actual blogging. (i.e. spilling out my guts)
*be prepared to read long passages of never ending words*

As I'm siting up in bed writing this, it is 3.09am.
I always find blog posts easiest to write in the midst of the night. When you're up late either doing some work, or just relaxing because you can. There's something about sitting upright in bed and having a laptop on your lap just working your fingers away on the keys and letting your writer's mind flow...

Being back home in Malaysia has been wonderful, being able to finally, finally be back in the arms of comfort. Although I have to admit, times have changed. A lot has changed in the last year. Nothing is ever the same day after day. I personally have grown used to different things living abroad. But coming back shall not be as if taking a winding path back to the past. It is part of the future, it is part of something new. We're making new memories everyday. Even if the situation and environment seems and looks the same.

I've also decided to try to do as much vlogging as I can while I'm back. Although the first two weeks I haven't yet filmed anything as I 1) haven't been anywhere interesting worth filming 2) didn't think it was appropriate for me to stuff people's faces with cameras all of a sudden (they must think I'm a weirdo anyway)

Over to the last bit, being back here also brings up to light the over bearing amount of events that has happened to my country. The mentality of the people here, I am so very disappointed. I stand by my country in any day, but if this were to continue: ______
I guess in my defense we were brought up in a different kind of way that what most people from the outside world is used to. I'm not about to go into depths of sensitive topics here as I think most citizens know, deep down in their hearts what should be done. Everyone's shaking their heads and facing their palms about society these days. You never know what's going on in the heads of those heavily bearded men over there sitting on the curb eating hotdogs, nor you'll know in those of the young man riding his motorbike and needless to say, of those women sitting in the mamak stall having their buka puasa meal.

The mind is infinitely endless.

Here you go, I thought I would share and update what has been troubling myself lately.
Have a good night.

Lots of love, Janice

Coming up next: -

Yeap. Trying to make this come true!

The idea of achieving something, the joy and excitement of something new, somewhere to explore completely mesmerizes me.

Then the true face of reality hits you, and you start thinking about how far it is till you reach your destination. So near yet so far. You can feel it, but you can't reach it and you don't have it in your hands. It only painfully reminds you that for something to be so worthwhile, it has to be worked for. It has to be complex. Nothing comes easy in life is worthwhile.

Sometimes I think it is not fair, but life is such. I only pray that I may stay on the path to my chosen destination and do not stray away from it.

This also brings me to think that there are so many opportunities and the world is so wide and so large we shall not stay in one place that's for certain.
